BETTY BUCKLEY (Margaret White) won critical acclaim and an Olivier Award nomination for her interpretation of Norma Desmond in the B'way and London productions of Andrew Lloyd Webber's Sunset Boulevard. She won a Tony Award for her performance as Grizabella in Lloyd Webber's Cats and has starred in other B'way and Off-B'way productions originating roles in Carrie (Outer Critics Circle nomination), Triumph of Love, The Mystery of Edwin Drood and 1776. She appeared in Song & Dance, Pippin and the London company of Promises Promises. In film, she made her debut in Brian DePalma's Carrie and appeared in Bruce Beresford's Tender Mercies, Roman Polanski's Frantic and Woody Allen's Another Woman. Ms. Buckley does extensive concertizing and has just completed her fifth album, Much More. Other recordings include Children Will Listen, With One Look, The London Concertand Betty Buckley (out of print). Her last CD, An Evening at Carnegie Hall was a benefit concert for B'way Cares/ Equity Fights AIDS. She was awarded an honorary Doctorate by Marymount College for her contribution to the Musical Theatre, a "Showstopper of the Year" Award by Lancome Paris and New York Woman magazine and the WCC "Civic Spirit" Award for 1996. Betty most recently played Mama Rose in the Paper Mill Playhouse production of Gypsy. A new cd entitled Betty Buckley's Broadway will be released in 1999.
