My Fair Lady starts with Professor Henry Higgins, an expert in phonetics who believes that he can teach anyone the proper ways of speaking that will make them look like royalty. He chooses Eliza Doolittle, a woman with a strong accent, to be his subject and he invites his friend, Colonel Hugh Pickering, to his house so he can observe while the professor teaches Eliza.
A few days later, Eliza’s father arrives acting like he gives a world’s care about his daughter but he is unexpectedly and verily satisfied with the money that Higgins has paid him. Eliza’s speech education continues but it seems to take forever before she can speak properly. Just as Professor Higgins and Colonel Pickering are about to give, Eliza finally shows progress and she starts talking with an impeccable upper class accent.
When Professor Higgins take Eliza to Ascot Racecourse, she is able to fool everyone with her accent. She also manages to attend a party and dance with a prince. There, she meets another phonetics expert who was trained by Professor Higgins, Zoltan Karpathy.
When she realizes that no one seems to recognize her for her hard work, Eliza leaves Higgins but she finds out that she can’t go back to her former life anymore. Higgins looks for her and he finds her at his mother’s house. He tries to convince her to go back to his house but she refuses and tells him that she’s going to marry another guy and will work as Zoltan Karpathy’s assistant. Higgins goes back home alone and realizes that he has grown accustomed to Eliza’s presence. The movie ends with Eliza appearing in Higgin’s study, much to his surprise.
