The Wizard of Oz is set in the early 1900s in Kansas. Here, a young girl named Dorothy lives with her Aunt Em and Uncle Henry as well as her dog, Toto. When Toto gets into trouble because the dog has bitten a neighbor, Dorothy takes him and runs away from their home.
Along the way, they encounter a person named Professor Marvel who falsely tells Dorothy that something bad has happened to her aunt and she must hurry back home. When she gets home, a violent tornado hits their neighborhood and Dorothy seeks protection in her bedroom. When their house is hit by the tornado, something strikes Dorothy on the heads and knocks her out.
The house gets blown off and it crashes in the Land of Oz, killing the Wicked Witch of the East. Glinda, the Good Witch of the North, and the Munchkins celebrate Dorothy’s accidental killing of the Wicked Witch. Before the Wicked Witch of the West can get the dead witch’s sleepers, Glinda puts them on Dorothy. The other Wicked Witch vows to get back at Dorothy some other time while Glinda advises her to take the yellow brick road which leads to the Emerald City. There she will find the Wizard of Oz who may be able to help her get back home.
During her journey, Dorothy makes friends with the Scarecrow, who desires to have a brain; the Tin Woodman, who wants to have a heart; and the Cowardly Lion who lacks courage. Because of the Wicked Witch, the group have a hard time reaching Emerald City. When they finally meet the Wizard of Oz, he agrees to help Dorothy in exchange for the Wicked Witch of the West’s broomstick.
On their way to the Witch’s castle, Dorothy and Toto get snatched by the Witch’s winged monkeys. Toto escapes the castle and searches for Dorothy’s friends. After sneaking inside the castle, the group fight the Winkie guards. The Witch burns the Scarecrow but Dorothy manages to douse the flames. The Witch also melts when she’s hit by the water. Her guards are happy now that the Witch is dead and they gave her broomstick to Dorothy as token of gratitude.
After the group gets back to Emerald City, the Wizard makes excuses when they ask for their rewards. During their confrontation, Toto pulls the curtain hiding the Wizard. It is revealed that the Wizard is nothing more than an old man pretending to be someone who has power. However, he stills gives the Scarecrow, the Lion, and the Tin Man some gifts to give them some satisfaction. A hot air balloon is also prepared for Dorothy which she can use to get back to Kansas. Unfortunately, it leaves without them because of Toto. At that moment, Glinda appears and tells Dorothy that if she taps her heels together thrice while saying the words, “There’s no place like home,” she can go back home. When Dorothy does this, she wakes up in the presence of her family, Toto, and Professor Marvel.
